Many American kids are into this competition and may pursue it in later life. Important lessons are learned at this time and will probably stay with us always. Just a few include leadership, getting along with others and learning to work on a team. There are further significant lessons like being educated in areas like enthusiasm, being dutiful, etc. But of course it all depends on the individual and what is valued. The game itself has very many skills and lessons necessary in one wants to excel.
A key position in American football that is sought after by many players is the quarterback. Despite your experience or knowledge of the game, the guy throwing the ball is always recognizable. The football is snapped backwards to the quarterback putting the ball in play allowing the game to start. If the quarterback is going to be sacked, he might run with the ball trying to get a first down before he gets tackled. Usually the person calling the plays at each down is the quarterback.
Though there are many rules of football, after you play it for some time, or watch it enough, they are easy to learn. The number one rule for the defense before the ball is set in play by the offense is to not cross the line of scrimmage. All good players know they have got a man to watch and an area to cover. It is as simple as sticking to the plan called by the quarterback and watching your space. Although the names of players and their positions have changed, you need to know what your job is regardless. Along with each position on the defense, there will be particular movements and patterns that fall within the coverage they are assigned. Players must also memorize the plays that will be given during the game to execute them properly.
American football is one great game of strategy and tactics that is highly dynamic and fluid. Each team has its plan, but everything is subject to immediate change. Very similar to a chess game, those calling the plays need to react to what the opposing team is now doing. The blitz is usually executed by linebackers or defensive "backs" that lead the charge. To prevent the offensive team for making a touchdown, the defensive team will often blitz to take down the quarterback. If the defensive line is completely devoted to sacking the quarterback, and they fail, this creates many openings for scoring a touchdown.
American football is a very tough, physically demanding game to play. Learning to play football right takes the proper attitude, as well as the willingness to learn, and a desire to improve. When you decide to change your mindset and have a desire to improve yourself, even a demanding sport like football can be an experience that is quite rewarding.
