The egg donation procedure can be long and time-consuming, which is why it is important to be totally committed to the process. The process often starts by taking a medicine for one to two weeks to stop your normal menstrual cycle. This makes it less difficult to manage how you deal with the fertility drugs. Once the two weeks are over, you'll be given a medicine to stimulate the production of eggs. Normally, one egg matures, and at ovulation, it is released. With the donation process however, you want to stimulate the production of many mature eggs.
It is quite essential that during this time of hyperstimulation that you refrain from intercourse or use a dependable kind of birth control. You can become pregnant before the eggs are retrieved or if the doctor doesn't eliminate all of the mature eggs. Not only can you become pregnant, but the pregnancy could result in twins, triplets or much more. During this time, you will be monitored meticulously, and blood tests and ultrasounds will determine how well the eggs are maturing and how you are responding to the hormones.
When the time is right, you will obtain a final dose of medicine in preparation for the egg retrieval. This part of the egg donation method can be intimidating, but the process is safe and minimally invasive. A long, thin needle will be inserted and suction out the eggs and liquid. The process lasts about 30 minutes, and most ladies will have painkillers, a sedative or anesthesia to make the retrieval much more comfortable. You will be able to rest for a few hours before going home and can resume regular activity within a few days.
After recovery, the egg donation process is complete. Although you may be making the decision to donate your eggs to help a couple conceive, it's not unusual to really feel let down after the process has ended. Some females have such a wonderful experience they want to donate again in the future, although it's not advised that donors repeat the procedure more than a couple of times. A lot of programs like to see the donor one or two times to ensure that she healed properly, while other people may not offer follow up care at all. Let this be some thing you consider when picking an egg donation program, as having available care after the process can assist you with emotions of closure.
