Nothing inspires determination more than an extremely large drive off the tee. Its perhaps also the most satisfying part of the game. Every manufacturer is trying to develop their drivers for max distance and accuracy. Its a difficult combination to enhance both. The length of the shaft has a lot to do with the amount of club head speed you can create, and thus distance. In years past, increasing the length of the club also negatively effected accuracy due to the increase in overall, and swing weight. With the evolution and advancements in materials and applied science, Cobra has unified the lightest and longest shaft available to create the Long Tom Driver. The longest legal length of a driver which conforms to USGA regulations is 48". Never before has a manufacturer ventured to release a club of such length, due to the sacrifices in accuracy a player would expect with a shaft length of 48". Cobra has become the first to take the challenge and designed the Long Tom Driver with a length of 48".

During World War II, The US Army utilized extra large 155mm Gun M1 Cannons that had an lengthy range of up to 14 miles and could destroy enemy targets with a 94 pound shell. These cannons were nicknamed "Long Tom", due to their tremendous range.

By bringing forth a driver at the boundaries of the maximum legal club length by the USGA, Cobra has manufactured the 4 foot long, 48" driver, the Cobra Long Tom Driver. Current day drivers have had a traditional length of around 45", but that norm has been increasing steadily, with the addition of lighter weight materials. Only today could a 48" driver be thinkable without sacrificing accuracy. In years past, before graphite shafts, a driver was almost never longer than 43". This was mainly due to the overall weight. Now with lighter and higher performance materials accessible, drivers can be manufactured at 48" without sacrificing performance. The Long Tom features an ultra light weight Graffaloy Blackbird graphite shaft. The grip is a Winn Ultra Light shorty grip. The grip is noticeable shorter than any other grip you've seen. With a driver this long, a common tendency will be to chock down on the club. The shorter grip will keep you from chocking down on the Long Tom, therefore getting maximum benefits from the extra length of the shaft.

The Long Tom is designed for any player in search of a little more length. It is an ideal driver for a player who enters a lot of scramble tournaments, where there is a premimum on distance. Also, with its ultra light weight design,, older players that are starting to lose distance, will positively gain extra clubhead speed from the longer shaft, and consequently more distance.

The Cobra Long Tom Driver will be available in 3 lofts, 8*, 9*, and 10*. The head is developed from a Titanium 6-4 body, with a Ti 8-1-1 low density face. The face utilizes Cobras E9 face technology, making it incredibly forgiving. The long Tom has the highest length to weight ratio of any Cobra driver.
