In the world of internet marketing, presence means everything. The more your products, services or website is exposed, linked to or affiliated – the more chances your business will be a success. With affiliate marketing, you can make money promoting other people’s products and services. But with all the products out there, how do you choose the best programs to promote?
Marketing online may be similar in many ways to marketing in the real world – you need to choose your market, select carefully the businesses you partner with, and sell or promote the best products or services that you can.
1. Security. Because there are sites that are scams, check if the one you are affiliating with is a legitimate business site. Look for reviews on review sites and check Better Business Bureau records. You can also do a WhoIs lookup to see how long a website has been in existence.
2. Simplicity. Some affiliate programs are just as simple as adding a single javascript code that will show all the product lines from their merchants. Some sites will even have a system that will automatically detect and push your best selling item to the top of the list. Part of the simplicity that a good internet marketing affiliate can offer is that they can collect your commission for you. To start, look for programs that are on major trusted networks like ShareASale or Avantlink.
3. Longer cookie duration may also mean good and profitable business for you. Look for businesses that offer at least 60 days cookie duration. Depending on the niche and cost of the product, most people will buy within 30 days, although it may be longer for more expensive purchases.
4. Ask merchants what products are the best sellers and promote those first. A good product is something that the customers look for instead of you selling it to them. Generally, merchants will also list their best products in more prominent places, like their home page or featured on their category pages.
5. Know your product and market well. By knowing the latest trends on your product, or knowing what the customers want more out of your product, you will then be able to cater to their needs and at the same time, gain advantage over your competitors. You can even help your customers make informed decisions in choosing the best product.
6. Get key metrics. You can study an affiliate marketing program historically for you to be able to find out its success rate. To be an affiliate means having a partner that will help you grow, and success begets success as well.
7. Systems in place that can monitor real-time sales will be crucial as you continue your affiliate program. It is important as every minute you are selling online and partnering with the same affiliate program, your competitor may be moving more aggressively than you if they are armed with the right information including real-time statistics of their sales and marketing efforts.
8. For some affiliate programs, even if you do not have a website, you can still be an affiliate by providing a text link through email.
Choosing a profitable marketing affiliate program is not rocket science but at the same time it is not completely simple. You should also mean choosing a program that is willing to support you and give you the best service as you strive to promote their product, service, or site. The best way to find out which affiliate programs work best for your business is to sign up and test it out first. You might even be surprised at which programs and items perform the best.
