The city has a wide range of bars, clubs, hotels and other attractions which make it a welcoming destination for any traveler.
This is a list of five things which a visitor to the City of Edinburgh might be interested in.
Edinburgh Castle
Edinburgh Castle is Scotland number one tourist attraction which sightseers have to pay to access, with over 1 million visitors a year paying to view the splendour of the castle. There are displays for tourists and visitors, and historical re-enactments are also put on for the benefit of visitors and tourists.
Edinburgh Fringe
The Edinburgh Festival Fringe is the largest arts festival in the world. It is held over a period of 4 weeks during the month of August, and mainly draws acts from the world of performing acts, with the main focus of the Fringe being based upon theatre and comedy. Some of the world's foremost talents have made an appearance at the Fringe, and it continues to provide a platform for both established and up and coming acts to perform in front of an audience. The Fringe is open to all performers, and so sightseers will find everything from Shakespeare to experimental modern day theatre.
Hogmanay
Although not exclusive to Edinburgh, the celebrations in Edinburgh are one of the most well renowned in the world of its genre. A street party is held in Edinburgh, for which tickets are needed. The party starts in early evening, and carries on towards midnight. On the stroke of midnight, the real celebrations begin, and the party kicks off in earnest.
National Gallery of Scotland
The National Gallery of Scotland is the official national art gallery of Scotland. It holds a number of works by some of the most important artists in the world. The gallery first opened to the public in 1859, and it has since become one of the most visited attractions in the City of Edinburgh. The gallery holds works from world famous artists such as Gauguin, Monet, van Gogh and da Vinci among others. The individual collection includes works such as The Three Graces, Vision after the Sermon and Christ in the House of Martha and Mary.
Holyrood Palace
Holyrood Palace is the official residence of the Royal Family in Scotland. It is used for official state functions, and for other functions undertaken on behalf of the state and monarchy. Holyrood is usually open to members of the public, other than when it is being used by members of the Royal Family.
