Cannabis is also known as Marijuana and is obtained from the hemp plant. It is either inhaled by converting in vapor form or can be consumed as a pill or in a liquid form. It may be green, gray or brown in color and has THC, also known as delta 9 tetrahydrocannabinol as its active chemical ingredient. The general view is that cannabis occurrence is relatively new, but in reality, it has been around and known to man for a really long time. A few historians also regard it as the first crop cultivated by man. Some archeological evidence also suggests that cannabis seeds were used by man some 10,000 years ago. Certain clay pots discovered in Taiwan suggested that strands of fiber of cannabis were used for decorating them. Studies revealed that these clay pots were around 10,000 years old.

The nomadic tribes traveling around the globe from 2,300 BC to 1,000 BC introduced it to people of Middle East, Africa, India and Europe. Some conflicting reports dating back to 2727 BC suggests that cannabis was allowed to be used as a cure for a number of diseases, including constipation, malaria, rheumatism, gout and female bodily problems to name a few by the then reigning Chinese emperor. Records also suggest that Europeans used it to cure some painful eye conditions around 2,000 BC. Around 1,000 BC, cannabis was used as anesthesia in India in order to relieve women from pain during childbirth. It was also used to cure a number of health concerns and thirst and hunger issues.

In the years around 200 BC to 70 BC, it was prescribed as drug to reduce the pain caused by edema, earaches and to reduce swelling in Rome and Greece. During the first-century AD, England became a major hub for the cultivation of Cannabis. Cannabis seeds for sale were found in the market. Under the reign of Queen Elizabeth I, farmers were made to cultivate cannabis on a part of their land. However, under Queen Elizabeth II, anybody found with cannabis was put through 14 years of imprisonment, and fine was imposed.

In mid 1700's, African people used it as a drug to cure hemorrhoids, cholera, hay fever, tetanus, skin diseases, asthma and rheumatism. During the same time period, the Napoleon army used it as a sedative and to fight pain. Around 1850, people started to consider it a danger to health rather than an aid. It was during this time that USA has thousands of acres of land used for cultivating cannabis.

In the nineteenth and the twentieth century, marijuana's reputation rose high and felt drastically a number of times and also became really popular among the youth during 1960's and 1970's. The controversy over its benefits and harmful effects is still going strong. There are many countries in the world which have banned it while in many others, you can find cannabis seeds for sale in the market. Cannabis has also found its part in the religious history. In Japan, it was used as a shield for married couples, which kept them safe from evil spirits. The Sufis of Islam praised enthusiastically about the values of cannabis and its relation to Allah. The Bible also has reference to Cannabis. It became an integral part of all Buddhist ceremonies and was considered the holiest plant. In Africa, it was thought to be brought by gods to earth and was used in the religious prayers and rituals.
