Miami, the awesome and lively city, filled with sunshine, beautiful architecture, and long sandy beaches. Truly a great place to be whether you’re flying, walking, driving, or boating. Despite its volume of cars in traffic daily, a recent friendly study says that Miami is actually the 8th walker friend city in the entire nation according to a Seattle based walk score.

They did a survey of the country’s 50 biggest cities and looked at how easy it was for residents to get around to services like grocery stores and other necessities; the score is from 1-100 to rank the walk ability of the city. Miami got a whopping rating of 72.5 on the scale, ruling out bigger cities like New York, San Francisco, and many others.

This could be a great chance for the city’s housing market to increase, people would see that it’s another reason to move to Miami or have a house here. “Instead of wanting the biggest and newest homes, potential [home] buyers now demand smaller, cheaper homes in more walk able communities,” said Walk Score CEO Josh Herst. According to research done by nonprofit organizations, just the slightest increase in any city’s walkability rate can add $3,000 to a home’s value, pretty nuts right? In the study they discovered the most walk able neighbors hoods in Miami were downtown, Brickell, and Little Havana.

The only reason Miami didn’t make it to the top 10 is because it isn’t amongst the top 10 biggest cities in the nation. Out of all the 50 largest cities in the country, Miami has one of the smallest land areas, making it one of the more compact locations for walkers adding on to the score. Miami’s center, Downtown Miami is starting to close in on other major cities, because of new projects like the Brickell city center the Miami tours and the Miami art museum have a goal to make Miami more of a cosmopolitan location, with residents living more in the downtown area. But of course not the whole city is walkable, the least walkable places in Miami are neighborhoods like, Liberty City, West Coconut grove, and Flagami, things being really far from each other, it’s better to own a car if living in those neighborhoods. And the transportation system in Miami is ranked lower compared to most cities on that list.

Real estate agent Jon Mann says that recently his younger clients have been more interested in purchasing or renting condos that are near clubs, entertainment, restaurants and parks. South Beach in Miami is definitely a prime location for walkability. South Beach hosts a lot of beautiful sights and is walker friendly. It also has many spots to eat and great walking spots like the beach, the famous ocean drive and many other places.

South Beach also has a lot of parks, normally attraction for all Miami tours and activities in the area and loves dog owners, there are several dog parks located throughout the South Beach area, making it even more walkers friendly then most neighborhoods.
